Hello everyone! I hope you had a great week. This week's post will be a bit shorter than my previous posts as I have not done much this week for my internship. I have been extremely busy this week with multiple ROTC labs, alongside a student-teaching internship at University High that began this week. I am working in a 10th grade world history class as a part of my education minor and so far it has been interesting to see how teaching has evolved since I graduated three years ago. There is more of an emphasis on online work both in and outside of the class. It has been fun so far and I look forward to my future work in the class.
For my internship this week, I cleaned up and finalized my July Perry essay, by adding a conclusion focused on how the city of Ocoee has taken actions to remember and honor Perry's work in voter registration and his death. Interestingly, some people put their 'I voted' stickers on his gravestone as a way to acknowledge his voter registration efforts. It has been harrowing learning about Perry's story and how common lynching and other hate crimes were throughout the twentieth century. I have also started research on Francis Eppes for my essay next week. So far, I have learned that Eppes was the grandson of Thomas Jefferson, and helped found Florida State University. I greatly look forward to future research on this interesting man.
